Pottery Care

All of our Muddy Branch pottery is made with cone 5–6 stoneware. Only food-safe glazes are used, so they’re safe for the consumption of hot and cold food and beverages. All of our products are 100% lead free.

All products are dishwasher and microwave safe. However, to retain the quality of your piece for years of enjoyment, hand-washing with a non abrasive cloth or sponge in warm soapy water is recommended.

Avoid placing in extremely cold environments such as a freezer, as this could cause thermal shock and result in fragility and cracking and/or breakage.

When microwaving, the piece must be heated evenly in order to avoid thermal stress. Therefore, put enough food in the plate or bowl to cover the bottom of the piece. Putting a small amount in a plate or bowl (such as butter) may cause that area to heat much hotter than the rest, possibly resulting in a crack. We do not recommend putting unglazed pottery in the microwave.

Some pieces are made especially for use in the oven. Please protect them from thermal shock! That means warming and cooling them slowly and evenly. In a conventional oven, put an empty cookie sheet on the lowest rack and put your pottery on the next higher rack. The cookie sheet will deflect the direct heat of the element away from the bottom of the piece. A cookie sheet is not necessary in a convection oven because the fan does this job for you. Food refrigerated in a baking dish should be brought up to room temperature before putting the pottery dish into the oven. When done baking, set the piece on a wire rack to cool after removing it from the oven.

Do not put pottery on a stove burner or open flame.

Pieces that have non-ceramic elements, such as coasters, jewelry, ornaments, and wood attachments are not meant to be used in the microwave, dishwasher, or oven.
